Standard concrete blocks at 60mm thickness for residential driveways; 50mm for patios and pedestrian paths; clay paviours for character properties (more expensive but colour-fast for life); permeable block paving with widened joints filled with grit for SuDS compliance.
Herringbone (45° or 90°) for maximum interlock and best vehicular performance; stretcher bond for contemporary driveways; basket-weave for traditional patios; random ashlar in mixed sizes for premium installs.
150mm minimum compacted MOT Type 1 for driveways, 100mm for patios. Laying course of 30mm sharp sand screeded flat. Joints filled with kiln-dried silica sand vibrated in twice, or polymeric jointing on premium installs for a weed-proof finish.
Concrete-haunched edge restraint is non-negotiable for any vehicular install. Patio edges use brick soldier courses, contrasting borders, or finish into existing hard edges. We design block layouts to minimise cuts and keep the visible joints clean.
